Overview
A critical vulnerability has been identified in PHPGurukul Old Age Home Management System version 1.0. This vulnerability is severe as it allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the “searchdata” parameter in the /search.php file. The successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to a system compromise or data leakage.

How the Exploit Works
The exploitation of this vulnerability is triggered by the manipulation of the ‘searchdata’ parameter in the /search.php file. An attacker could inject arbitrary SQL commands that the web application executes without proper validation. This could potentially allow the attacker to view, modify, or delete information in the underlying SQL database.
Conceptual Example Code
The following is a conceptual example of a possible exploit. This could be a malicious HTTP request that an attacker may use to exploit the vulnerability:
POST /search.php HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
searchdata=1; DROP TABLE users
In this example, the attacker is attempting to delete the ‘users’ table from the database. If the system is vulnerable and lacks proper input validation and sanitization, this command could be executed successfully, resulting in significant data loss.
Mitigation Guidance
Users of PHPGurukul Old Age Home Management System 1.0 are advised to apply the vendor patch as soon as possible. In the meantime, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can provide temporary mitigation. These systems can be configured to recognize and block SQL Injection attacks, preventing the exploitation of this vulnerability.
