How the Exploit Works
The vulnerability resides in the file login_process.php, particularly in the handling of the password argument. This flaw allows the attacker to manipulate the SQL query via the password argument, leading to a SQL injection attack. This malicious manipulation could allow an attacker to view, modify, or delete data in the database, potentially leading to unauthorized access, system compromise, and data leakage.
Conceptual Example Code
An example of how the vulnerability might be exploited could resemble the following HTTP request:
POST /login_process.php HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
username=admin&password=' OR '1'='1' --
In this example, the attacker is injecting SQL code into the password field, tricking the SQL statement to always return true, which could grant the attacker unauthorized access to the system.
