Overview
This report sheds light on a critical vulnerability (CVE-2023-7210) discovered in versions of OneNav up to 0.9.33. The vulnerability, which impacts an unknown part of the /index.php?c=api file in the API component, allows for improper authentication due to the manipulation of the X-Token argument. This issue is of significant concern as it enables a remote attacker to potentially compromise the system or leak data.

How the Exploit Works
The vulnerability stems from the manipulation of the X-Token argument in the /index.php?c=api file of OneNav’s API component. An attacker can leverage this flaw by sending specially crafted requests that exploit the weak argument validation. This can lead to improper authentication, allowing unauthorized access to sensitive information, data leakage, or potentially a full system compromise.
Conceptual Example Code
The following conceptual example illustrates how an attacker might exploit this vulnerability. It simulates a malicious HTTP POST request targeting the vulnerable endpoint:
POST /index.php?c=api HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
X-Token: manipulated_token
Content-Type: application/json
{ "malicious_payload": "..." }
In this example, the attacker has manipulated the X-Token value, triggering the vulnerability and potentially gaining unauthorized access to the system.
Mitigation Guidance
It is recommended to apply vendor patches as soon as they are available to effectively mitigate this vulnerability. In the absence of a patch, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can serve as temporary mitigation measures. Regularly updating and auditing your system can further enhance its security against such threats.
