It uses file_exists() without placing any restriction on the path provided, making the plugin vulnerable to PHP Object Injection. This vulnerability can be exploited by unauthenticated users. However, the impact of this vulnerability relies on the presence of another plugin or theme containing a POP chain. If such a plugin or theme is installed, the attacker might be able to delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code based on the POP chain.

Conceptual Example Code

Here’s a conceptual example of a malicious request that could exploit this vulnerability:

POST /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=sureforms_delete_entry_files HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
Content-Type: application/json
{
"path": "../../../../../../../var/www/html/wp-config.php"
}

In this scenario, the path is manipulated to point to a sensitive file (wp-config.php), which contains database connection details. If a POP chain is present, this file could be deleted or its contents leaked, potentially leading to a system compromise.

Mitigation

Users are urged to apply the vendor patch as soon as it becomes available. As a temporary measure, a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or Intrusion Detection System (IDS) could be used to help detect and prevent exploitation attempts.

Overview This report covers the vulnerability CVE-2025-6742, a PHP Object Injection flaw in the SureForms – Drag and Drop Form Builder for WordPress plugin.
