These fields, which are typically mandatory, can be bypassed in Froxlor versions prior to 2.1.2, allowing the registration process to proceed without key data. This could potentially allow an attacker to gain access to the system and compromise it or leak sensitive data.

Conceptual Example Code

Here is a conceptual example of how the vulnerability might be exploited using an HTTP request:

POST /registration HTTP/1.1
Host: target.example.com
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
username=&password=&surname=&company_name=

In the above example, the attacker leaves the fields for `username`, `password`, `surname`, and `company_name` empty, thereby bypassing the system’s mandatory field requirements and potentially gaining unauthorized access.

Mitigation

To mitigate this vulnerability, users are advised to update Froxlor to version 2.1.2 or later, which contains a fix for this issue. In the meantime, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can provide temporary mitigation.

Overview This report addresses the cybersecurity vulnerability CVE-2023-50256 related to Froxlor, an open-source server administration software.
