While parsing an MP4 file, the function reads past the end of a heap buffer. This action, known as a heap buffer overflow, can cause the application to crash or, more dangerously, allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code. The attacker could craft a malicious MP4 file that, when processed by the vulnerable GStreamer software, triggers the overflow and executes the attacker’s code, potentially leading to system compromise or data leakage.

Conceptual Example Code

Below is a conceptual example of how an attacker might exploit this vulnerability.
