In the context of this identified vulnerability, an attacker could craft a malicious HTML page that, when processed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ameeba.com\/blog\/cve-2025-9866-google-chrome-extensions-content-security-policy-bypass-vulnerability\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"86590\">Google Chrome&#8217;s<\/a> Cast feature, causes the browser to continue using previously freed memory. This could lead to heap corruption and potentially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ameeba.com\/blog\/cve-2025-47168-use-after-free-vulnerability-in-microsoft-office-word-allowing-unauthorized-code-execution\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"73177\">allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code<\/a>, leading to system compromise or data leakage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conceptual Example Code<\/strong><\/p><div id=\"ameeb-343120353\" class=\"ameeb-content ameeb-entity-placement\"><div class=\"poptin-embedded\" data-id=\"f6b387694f681\"><\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a conceptual example of how an attacker might exploit this vulnerability. The attacker would craft a malicious HTML page that includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ameeba.com\/blog\/cve-2025-52478-stored-cross-site-scripting-vulnerability-in-n8n-s-form-trigger-node\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"79431\">script specifically designed to trigger<\/a> the use after free condition in the Cast feature:<\/p>\n<pre><code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">&lt;html&gt;\n&lt;head&gt;\n&lt;script&gt;\nfunction triggerVulnerability() {\nvar element = document.createElement(&#039;div&#039;);\ndocument.body.appendChild(element);\n\/\/ Trigger the vulnerability\nelement.remove();\n\/\/ The removed element is still being used here\nelement.innerHTML = &quot;&lt;cast&gt;&quot;;\n}\n&lt;\/script&gt;\n&lt;\/head&gt;\n&lt;body onload=&quot;triggerVulnerability()&quot;&gt;\n&lt;\/body&gt;\n&lt;\/html&gt;<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>The attacker could then distribute this HTML page, and any user who opens the page in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ameeba.com\/blog\/cve-2025-43588-out-of-bounds-write-vulnerability-in-substance3d-sampler-versions-5-0-and-earlier\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"73504\">vulnerable version<\/a> of Google Chrome could potentially be compromised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mitigation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users are strongly advised to apply the latest updates from Google, which contain the necessary patches to fix this vulnerability. For those unable to immediately apply the patch, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can serve as a temporary mitigation method. However, these should not be viewed as long-term solutions, and updating the browser should be done as soon as possible to ensure maximum security.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview Google Chrome, one of the most widely used web browsers globally, has recently been found to have a critical vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-8578.
