This vulnerability, an out-of-bounds write flaw, affects both Dell ControlVault3 versions prior to 5.15.10.14 and Dell ControlVault 3 Plus versions prior to 6.2.26.36. If exploited, it could provide an attacker with the capacity to compromise systems or lead to data leakage, making it a significant concern for organizations and individuals using the affected software. The issue takes place when a specially crafted ControlVault API call is made, leading to an out-of-bounds write. This indicates that the vulnerability can be triggered by an attacker issuing an API call that causes the program to write data beyond its allocated memory space. This overflow of data can lead to corruption of valid data, potentially causing the system to crash or, even worse, allowing the attacker to execute arbitrary code.

Conceptual Example Code

Here’s a hypothetical example of how the vulnerability might be exploited.
