An attacker can manipulate the index value and overflow the bounds of the array. This overflow can lead to memory corruption, which can then be exploited to execute arbitrary code on the system.

Conceptual Example Code

This section is not meant to provide actual exploit code, but rather to offer a conceptual understanding of how an exploit might occur. They then create an index value bigger than the size of the array and a malicious payload. The malicious payload is sent to the target using the malicious index, resulting in an array overflow and potentially leading to arbitrary code execution.

Mitigation Guidance

IBM has released a patch to fix this vulnerability, and it is highly recommended that users of affected versions of IBM Tivoli Monitoring apply the patch immediately. If patching is not immediately feasible, using a Web Application Firewall (WAF) or Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can serve as temporary mitigation.
