The vulnerability is a result of an out of bounds read past the end of an allocated structure in the affected software, which can be triggered by parsing specially crafted CGM files. This vulnerability is significant as it allows potential attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process, which could lead to severe consequences such as system compromise or data leakage.
The affected applications are widely used in various industrial sectors, making this vulnerability a serious concern that necessitates immediate attention and mitigation. In this case, the software fails to properly handle the parsing of specially crafted CGM files. This could result in an out of bounds read past the end of an allocated structure.
An attacker with knowledge of this vulnerability could create a specially crafted CGM file, which when processed by the affected software, could cause the application to read beyond the allocated memory.
