Over at Slashdot they're talking about how Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has been asked to write a paper about open source for the new administration.

I think this a great thing, since open source products are virtually endlessly flexible and often very inexpensive. I've heard the new whitehouse.gov was developed with ASP.NET, so it will be interesting to see if they stick with Microsoft or really do take a more open source stance. Either way, it's great that the new administration is even thinking about stuff like this.

Open source products have added more value to the marketplace than Microsoft or other proprietary products in recent years. The low cost of entry to the use and further development of open source applications has become the standard for many company and non-profits.

I’m certainly onboard with open source. The report by Scott McNeally will be interesting.
